Plastics

I'm concerned about how much plastic is used in the commercial nursery business. I'm committed to re-using pots and making markers from anything possible. Which means I spend a lot of time sterilizing and scrubbing out used plant pots, and cutting up clean re-used containers. You can be assured that my plants grow in recycled pots that have been carefully cleaned.

 Soil

I make my own potting soil out of a mix of native soil, peat moss, perlite, sand, coir, vermiculite, and grit. I live on a hillside that is a rubble of sand and stone, with very low fertility. Over the last 60 years (when this area was last logged)  Alders, Broad-leaved Maples, Douglas Fir, Cascara and Dogwoods have grown up, creating  some rich pockets of leafy humus
